Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu arrived in Solwezi this morning from Mukobeko Maximum Correctional Facility expecting to appear before court over charges of seditious practices.
Instead, their matter was adjourned after both sides of the defence sought more time before proceedings could continue.
The Solwezi Magistrates’ Court has now set 5th and 6th October 2026 for the matter involving the former NRPUP presidential candidate and his running mate, who are each facing one count of seditious practices.
The two appeared before Solwezi Principal Resident Magistrate Mambwe Mukonde for plea and possible commencement of trial.
Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri, who is leading the prosecution team, told the court that the State was ready to proceed.
Mr Mundubile, however, applied for an adjournment because his lawyers from Mulungushi Chambers were not present.
Mr Zulu, who is being represented by Central Chambers and Makebi Zulu Advocate, also asked for more time to allow the defence to adequately prepare. He told the court that he only received the charge sheet upon arriving at Solwezi Airport.
The charges stem from separate social media posts made during the electoral process.
Mr Mundubile is alleged to have posted on Facebook that NRPUP was leading the election according to the Parallel Vote Tabulation and called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia to resume vote counting after the process had been suspended.
Mr Zulu is accused of posting that Mr Mundubile would address the nation and urging his audience to remain on standby.
After the proceedings, defence lawyer Sakwiba Sikota raised another issue with journalists.
He questioned why his clients were appearing in Solwezi when the allegations against them were said to have occurred in Lusaka.
The matter will return to court on 5th and 6th October, when the proceedings are expected to continue.
